Whether they be the muse or the maker, women have shaped the world of art history. However, most women still meet opposition similar to the traditional narrative setting of art, in spite of their daily interaction with various forms of art. To be precise, women have always faced various challenges owing to gender biasing and this extends to art making and art history. Women are not, however, a homogeneous category defined by gender alone. Women are agonistically differentiated by class, ethnicity, culture, religion, geopolitical location, sexuality, and ability.
This exhibit explores the powerful and important imagery brought about by considering the theme "Woman" in all of its diversity. Artists explored a historical context, looked at ancient tales, found inspiration in nature, and represented women in their own lives. What histories and emotions can be seen in these storied images?
